Dustin Sanchez
Dustin Sanchez is an American author and educator based in Midland, Texas. A graduate of Lamar University with a degree in English, he has spent much of his professional life working at the intersection of literature, education, and storytelling.
His writing is drawn to the strange places where ordinary lives collide with extraordinary circumstances. Sanchez writes across genres, with an interest in stories that are difficult to categorize neatly—romance that becomes something larger, speculative fiction grounded in human relationships, literary experiments built around unusual premises, and stories shaped by the places and cultures that surround their characters. His work is often concerned with people confronted by circumstances they cannot completely control, and with the choices they make when their carefully constructed lives begin to unravel.
Living in West Texas has given Sanchez a particular appreciation for landscape, distance, and the lives that exist far from the traditional centers of American literary culture. Midland, an oil city in the Permian Basin, is a place of enormous horizons and constant movement, where people arrive from elsewhere and build lives in a landscape that can feel simultaneously isolated and cosmopolitan. That tension informs much of his perspective as a writer.
Sanchez is also the founder of Moji Press, an independent publishing venture dedicated to discovering and developing writers from different backgrounds and bringing distinctive international and genre fiction to English-language readers. Through Moji Press, he has sought to build a publishing model that gives authors a greater share in the success of their work while creating room for books that might not fit comfortably within conventional publishing categories.
As both a writer and publisher, Sanchez is particularly interested in the possibilities created when traditional literary culture meets new technologies. He views publishing not simply as a means of distributing books, but as an opportunity to experiment with how stories are created, translated, discovered, funded, and shared.
His own fiction reflects that same willingness to experiment. Whether writing about love, travel, competition, family, ambition, or the unpredictable consequences of a single decision, Sanchez is interested above all in the human story beneath the premise.
He lives and writes with his wife and two children in Midland, Texas.
