Outside the Long Palace in Xi’an, the storm was only starting to get worse. The First King’s eyes were on the mountain. The lightning streaked across the sky, the thunder following soon after. The First King shook slightly, but told himself it was because of the wind.
Mr. Lee, Lianhua’s father, was looking up at the First King on his elevated stage.
“I do not have patience for you today, Lee,” the First King growled.
“I don’t know if you know this, but the Baku have moved their operations to America.”
